Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has said he is “not doing okay” as he left Los Angeles – reportedly for a stint in rehab.
The Oscar-winning film producer spoke to photographers outside his daughter’s house, where police were called during his visit on Wednesday.
LAPD said they had received reports of a “disturbance” but left because there was no crime and it was a “family dispute”.
Outside the West Hollywood property, Weinstein said: “I’m not doing okay, I’m trying – gotta get help. You know what? We all make mistakes.”
The 65-year-old also said he hoped he would get “a second chance” – as more women added to the avalanche of claims of sexual assault and inappropriate behaviour against him.
He was later seen boarding a private jet at LA’s Van Nuys airport – reportedly headed for a treatment centre in Arizona.
French actress Lea Seydoux and British supermodel Cara Delevingne are the latest stars to publish detailed accounts of unwanted advances from Weinstein.
Seydoux described how she was forced to defend herself when Weinstein “jumped” on her and tried to kiss her in a hotel room, while Delevingne claimed he tried to make her kiss another woman while he watched.
Weinstein left California as prosecutors defended their decision not to press charges against him for an alleged assault on an Italian model.
Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance said he was “sickened” by a recording in which Weinstein appeared to admit to groping Ambra Battilana Gutierrez – but claimed it was not enough to secure a conviction.
Mr Vance added that Weinstein’s status and political donations to the Democratic Party had nothing to do with the decision.
Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – which hosts the Oscars – has announced that a special meeting will be held on Saturday to determine whether they should take any action against Weinstein.
In a statement, it said: “The Academy finds the conduct described in the allegations against Harvey Weinstein to be repugnant, abhorrent, and antithetical to the high standards of the Academy and the creative community it represents.”
Reports have also emerged that the Weinstein Company – which fired its co-chairman on Sunday – may have known about allegations of sexual misconduct for two years.
The New York Times reported that the board and company were made aware of three or four confidential settlements with women in 2015 when Weinstein’s contract was up for renewal.
Amazon Entertainment also announced it was reviewing projects produced by the Weinstein Company – including a drama series starring Robert de Niro and Julianne Moore.
In a statement, Weinstein said he supported the decision of his wife – fashion designer Georgina Chapman – to leave him but said he hoped they could “rebuild” their relationship after his spell in rehab.
