In a great slew of Instagram posts this morning—if you follow Lady Gaga on the platform, you may have momentarily wondered whether the pop star had been hacked—Gaga shared that a new documentary about her life, titled Gaga: Five Foot Two, is forthcoming. (She also posted video preview clips from the film.)
While documentaries about pop stars are somewhat common—in recent years, we have seen Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, One Direction, and more serve themselves up for the doc treatment—this one, based on the few preview clips Gaga posted, looks to be more raw, and at least based on Instagram clips, potentially more revealing.
In one clip, Gaga can be heard, in hysterics, crying to her friend, stylist Brandon Maxwell, about the deep loneliness she feels. “But like, I just . . . I’m alone, Brandon. Every night,” she cries. “All these people will leave, right? They will leave and then I’ll be alone. And I go from everyone touching me all day and talking at me all day to total silence.”
In another clip, she is seen waiting in a hospital room as a doctor explains a procedure to her. “Phase 1, let’s try to get you out of this intense pain that’s in in your face where you feel like you’re running from the tiger all the time,” the doctor says. “And I know there’s this component of psych that Dr. Modeer is working on. Phase 2, let’s try to get the muscles to re-educate. Phase 3 we do the blood spinning to try to cause regeneration. So I’ll be back, and then I’ll talk you through.”
In one of the other clips she posted, Gaga explains she actually has not watched the full documentary—which was filmed by Me @ the Zoo filmmaker Chris Moukarbel—as she “can’t be objective” about herself. “You’ll see it before I do,” she says with a laugh.
Gaga has been quite busy over the past year, and People suggests the documentary will see her working on her album Joanne, performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, and filming American Horror Story, as well as working through her breakup with fiancé Taylor Kinney. We are also keeping our fingers crossed that the documentary crew trailed along on the night she went motorcycle riding with Bradley Cooper before they started filming A Star Is Born.
Gaga: Five Foot Two will be released on Netflix on September 22, after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
