On Tuesday, Georgina Chapman announced that she was separating from Harvey Weinstein after 10 years of marriage. Her statement mentioned only their children and their personal relationship, but as the Weinstein Company scrambles to regroup and distance themselves from their founder, Chapman seems to also be trying to rescue her high-end fashion label, Marchesa. But she may not ever be able to get enough distance for what’s unfolding as the biggest Hollywood scandal in decades.
On Thursday, the same day The New York Times published a bombshell report about Weinstein’s decades of alleged sexual misconduct by Weinstein, Helzberg Diamonds announced the upcoming release of its collaboration with Marchesa on a set of engagement rings. Now, the “Marchesa Radiant Star” collection has been renamed to just “Radiant Star,” and the link to its product page is now inactive on Helzberg Diamond’s Web site.
A spokesperson for Helzberg confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the collection is no longer expected to be released later this month as scheduled, saying “the company is not launching the Marchesa brand at this time.” The photos announcing the launch of the collaboration are still up on the brand’s Instagram page.
This isn’t the first setback Marchesa has had to face this week. On Wednesday, an e-mail was sent out to those invited to Marchesa’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection preview announcing that the event was being postponed “to a later date.”
Weinstein was known for lending his power to boost Marchesa; actresses in his films could often be seen wearing the label at events and on red carpets). And while the company has no official ties to the Weinstein Company, Marchesa and Chapman are both going through the effort of distancing themselves. While announcing her decision to separate from Weinstein, Chapman released a statement denouncing his actions. “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”
