I honestly had forgotten that Mark Wahlberg appeared in anything over the past 12 months. I racked my brain (it didn’t take long) and all I could come up with was a commercial for Wahlburgers. In actuality, I forgot about Mark’s appearances in Transformers: The Last Knight and the movie where he’s on the oil rig that explodes. According to Forbes’ annual list of the highest-paid actors in the world, Mark Wahlberg made a lot of money for the work he did.
Forbes says that Mark Wahlberg was the highest-paid actor in the world last year with a grand total of…$68 million. Sixty-eight. Sixty-eight million actual human-world dollars. No disrespect to Mark Wahlberg here, but damn if that isn’t the type of money that could make you doubt the existence of karma.
Mark Wahlberg made money from Transformers: The Last Knight (it grossed $601 million), and reportedly commanded a high fee for the upcoming sequel to Daddy’s Home. He also makes money from A&E’s Wahlburgers, and cashes checks from AT&T commercials.
Last year’s number one, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, was pushed down to the number two spot. If The Funky Bunch is listening, now is the time to text Marky Mark for a loan. Feel free to pressure him by adding, “If it’s a problem, I guess I could always ask The Rock. He seems like a good guy.”
You can see the whole list here, but here’s the top 10 list. Once again, Adam Sandler made a ton of money. I’d be interested to know the conditions that were set in the contract he signed exchanging his soul to the Devil. It seems to be working out for him!
1. Mark Wahlberg – $68 million
2. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – $65 million
3. Vin Diesel – $54.5 million
4. Adam Sandler – $50.5 million
5. Jackie Chan – $49 million
6. Robert Downey Jr. – $48 million
7. Tomn Cruise – $43 million
8. Shah Rukh Khan – $38 million
9. Salman Khan – $37 million
10. Akshay Kumar – $35.5 million
To compare with Forbes’ highest-paid actresses list that was released last week, Emma Stone – the number-one from that list with $26 million – wouldn’t even have cracked the top ten of the actor’s list. And Emma won an Oscar! Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg is getting $68 million to talk to CGI robots from a 1980’s Saturday morning cartoon. It’s pretty obvious what needs to be done here. Fix the very obvious gender wage gap, you say? No, I’m implying that Emma’s agent needs to get her a role in the next Transformers film. Hollywood might not be throwing money at women, but they appears to be ok with dumping cash on robots in disguise.
