Shortest Bachelor Engagements: Nick Viall, Emily Maynard, and More

First, comes love, then comes fame, then comes a short-lived engagement? That’s pretty much the formula for most couples on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. And now, on the heels of Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi‘s not-so-surprising split only five months after their televised engagement aired, we’re wondering if true love even exists anymore on this show.

And some stars — we’re looking at you, Emily Maynard — have the privilege of having two failed engagements from the franchise. With 34 combined seasons from the shows (not including Paradise or Pad because LOL those stats are even worse), only a handful of couples have actually made it down the aisle. And with stats like those, the odds are not on the side of these couples — keep scrolling to see the shortest Bachelor engagements — besides Nick and V, that is.

Length of Relationship: Less than one month

Jason and Melissa might be the most infamous couple in Bachelor nation history. Jason proposed during the finale of Season 13 of The Bachelor, but then later changed his mind during After The Final Rose. He asked for the ring back and instead proposed to runner-up Molly Malaney. But, it seems like he knew what he was doing the second time around because he and Molly have been married since 2000.

Length of Relationship: Six months

Aaron and Helene were one of the first couples to become engaged on The Bachelor. The Season 2 couple distinguished themselves from the rest of the couples by the engagement ring used during the proposal. Aaron bought his own ring instead of using a Neil Lane ring provided by the show. Unfortunately, the sparkler went to waste because they eventually split.

Brad and Emily fell in love during Season 15 of The Bachelor, but their love story was rather short lived. They broke up briefly while their season was still airing and then later called it quits for good.

The farm life just wasn’t for city girl Whitney after all. The couple fell in love during Season 19 of The Bachelor but later announced they had mutually ended their engagement. Chris later spoke out admitting that their breakup was hard on him and went as far as to call it a “dark moment.”

The Season 12 British star ofThe Bachelor didn’t find his American girl after all. Matt and Shayne claimed to be madly in love but ultimately ended their relationship.

Length of Relationship: Six months

Poor Emily… she had not one, but two failed Bachelor relationships. The Season 8 star of The Bachelorette was this close to getting her happy ending with Jef, but the couple just wasn’t meant to be. It’s okay though, because she later said she has “no regrets” about their relationship.

Length of Relationship: Six months

You could call Jake and Vienna the perfect storm of Bachelor couples. Vienna was the Season 14 villain on the show making their engagement super controversial. They later got in an ugly blowout during a post-breakup interview with Chris Harrison which, well, made great TV.

Josh Murray & Andi Dorfman

Andi and Josh seemed like the perfect couple until their relationship went south and then Andi proceeded to write a tell-all about her time as the Season 10 star of The Bachelorette. Totally casual.
