Days after it began, and approximately three Trump scandals later, the Louise Linton Instagram controversy refuses to die. First there was the outrage, then the apology (and designer rebuffs), and now the op-ed written by the commenter who set this whole thing in motion. Jennifer Miller, the Oregon mother of three who wrote “glad we could pay for your little getaway” on a photo Linton had so liberally hashtagged, has now published her thoughts on CNN.com, because why not milk this story for everything it has?
“My friends and family will tell you that I have a big heart and am very caring, but that I’m also snarky and unafraid to call things like I see them,” MIller wrote. “I did that to Louise Linton on Instagram the other day, referring to her post about her designer labels as ‘deplorable.’ I stand by that sentiment.”
If the media narrative keeps going from here, CNN could turn Miller into a left-leaning Joe the Plumber-like character, conveniently ignoring how that all blew up only nine years ago. While Miller may have felt empowered to take her voice from a one-sentence Instagram comment to an op-ed, it’s hard to imagine this having a positive impact, or any impact at all. Linton has already released her (very brief) apology and essentially gotten away with her public tantrum. Once this story really dies down, Linton will still be riding on private government planes while wearing designer clothes—whether they like it or not.
