Barring some unforeseen hiccup, Avengers: Infinity War is about to become a global box office phenomenon.
It is, after all, building on a super-powered legacy stretching all the way back to 2008, when Jon Favreau and the fresh-faced Robert Downey Jr. defied all odds and transformed Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man) into a household name. A full ten years have passed since that historic feat, and in that time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ballooned into an industry of its own, replete with A-list stars, a seasoned architect in Kevin Feige and many, many characters.
Yes, if there’s one element of Infinity War that continues to fuel debate online, it’s who exactly we can expect to see in the film. At this point, it really does sound like everyone who’s still breathing in the MCU will be involved, though if there’s one person that we can definitely count out, it’s Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. That’s because the actress is skipping Infinity War, though she will be in Avengers 4. Lilly confirmed as much earlier this week, telling her fans that while she does have a role in the pic, it’s not a major one.
“I will appear in Avengers 4,” Lilly replied. “Not very much, so don’t get your hopes up. Not going to be a ton. But I’m in there! And I’m proud to be in there, and I’m stoked to be in there.”
Continuing on, she spoke about her experience on set, saying:
“I had so much fun on the Avengers 4 film set because they made it like a party. It was right around Christmas time and it was just like they had this tent set up with Christmas carols, with Christmas lights, and music, so every time we would be on set or walk off the set we’d walk into this really festive environment and I was surrounded by all these rock stars who are super cool people in real life and we all got to know each other. Robert Downey Jr. would have us to his tent for lunch and we’d all sit down and have lunch together.”
Finally, Lilly noted that working on Avengers 4 was the “polar opposite” of most other big productions, and here’s why:
“It ended up being what I think a lot of fans think a lot of fans imagine its like on a film set with a bunch of film stars, which usually it isn’t. Usually film stars all go to their own trailers and disappear and don’t talk to one another and they get on the phone with their wife or their husband or their agent or their the CEO of a company that they’re running and they’ve got something to do during their lunch hour, and sometimes it can be a really lonely place to be, on a film set. But Avengers was the polar opposite of that. It was this community, and it was fun, and people were really warm and kind.”
Though fans may be a bit upset that they won’t get to see much of Hope in the film, it’s still good to hear that she’s definitely involved and we can at least look forward to Lilly taking the spotlight in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp, which crawls into theaters on July 6th. Avengers 4, meanwhile, will be with us on May 3rd, 2019.
