Wesley Snipes Open To Playing Other Marvel Characters Aside From Blade

Eric Brooks, the so-called daywalker who treads the line between mortal and immortal, has been on an unofficial hiatus since 2004, when David S. Goyer’s derivative Blade: Trinity almost sentenced the cult horror series to an early grave.

There’s still a palpable interest in the franchise, though, leading fans to theorize about Wesley Snipes and his possible successor. Such speculation has resulted in Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Infinity War) and Jamie Foxx (Baby Driver) being linked with a Blade reboot, but it seems a fourth movie is still on the table – even after all these years.

In fact, just yesterday Snipes told The Hollywood Reporter that he’d be more than happy to reprise the role, but even if he doesn’t end up getting the chance, he’d still be into the idea of playing another character in the Marvel universe.

“There are other characters in the Marvel universe that, if they want to invite me to play around with, I am with that too,” said the actor. “I think the fans have a hunger for me to revision the Blade character, though, so that could limit where they could place me as another character in that universe.”

What Snipes says here is perfectly sound. The demand for him to reprise his role as Blade is huge and if he was brought back to the Marvel universe as another character, it may be a bit weird for fans, as for so many people, he simply is Blade. Then again, many other actors have played more than one superhero across their career (Ryan Reynolds, Ben Affleck, Chris Evans) and it’s been a long, long time since Snipes suited up as the daywalker, so it could work.

If we had to pick, though, we’d love to see him return as Blade rather than another character. Sure, he’s much older than he was when he left the part, but fans would surely welcome him back with open arms. Not only is there a strong call for the hero himself to join the MCU, but as we said above, Snipes made the role his own and gave a tremendous performance across all three films in the trilogy – even if Trinity was a bit of a dud – and as such, it’d be great to see him get another outing as the fan favorite.

With any luck, all this chatter will hopefully have Marvel sitting up and taking notice of the actor, but until they decide to bring him into their cinematic universe, tell us, would you like to see Wesley Snipes return as Blade? Or did you have another character in mind for him to play? As always, sound off down below with your thoughts.
