Even for the Kardashians, this is pretty head-scratching news.
According to TMZ, Scott Disick, the party boy baby daddy of Kourtney Kardashian, was expected to enjoy a private tour of the White House Thursday night. Disick, who has earned his “TV personality” designation courtesy of his appearances on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” would be accompanied on this special private tour by two of his kids, Mason, 7, and Penelope, 5.
The tour was expected to take place after Disick, who apparently likes to call himself “Lord Disick,” hosted the opening of a restaurant called The Sugar Factory in Arlington, Virginia.
What’s not clear is how Disick, an “ambassador” for the restaurant, managed to nab himself a visit to the home of President Donald Trump and the office for the seat of world power.
Is Disick, who is currently dating 19-year-old Sofia Ritchie, a quiet Trump supporter? Was he invited by the president himself?
Or is First Lady Melania Trump a fan of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and of Disick’s particular charms?
Maybe Barron Trump wanted to hang out with Mason and Penelope, other celebrity kids who have a publicly maligned father.
Or given the people Trump sometimes turns to for advice and friendship these days, maybe the president he hoped to confer with Disick on health care, North Korea, natural disaster relief or his ongoing battle with “take the knee” athletes in the NFL.
Then again, TMZ made it sound like Disick actually arranged the tour himself earlier in the week.
It could be that he wasn’t going to see the Trumps at all, in the Oval Office or in their private residence in the the White House. He could have gone to visit the parts of the house that are generally open to the public for scheduled self-guided tours.
But wait! The idea that Disick somehow arranged a private nighttime tour of the White House, and on such short notice, raises questions.
The thing is, no one is supposed to be able to just call up the White House and say, “Hey, I’d like to swing by Thursday night and check out the East Room.”
The White House has serious protocol in place for all members of the public who want to visit America’s first residence and see its many historical treasures.
For one thing the White House isn’t open for public tours at night, only 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 7:30 to 1:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, according to the White House website.
You also need to request your tickets, often months in advance, but you must allow at least 21 days to process the request.
Moreover, all requests for tickets also must go through one’s Member of Congress.
So, the question could be, which idiot member of Congress OK’ed Disick’s last-minute request for a nighttime tour of the White House?
If a U.S. representative was going to massively bend the rules to get this perk for a celebrity, you would think the celebrity would be someone pretty major and pretty accomplished.
The last thing we heard about Disick was that he had been hospitalized in September on a 5150 psychiatric hold for getting massively drunk and out of control at home. In the spring, he had been spotted partying and cozying up with a string of women in Cannes.
So, if a congressperson was going to arrange a special tour for, say, a Kardashian, at least the person should be a real Kardashian — Kris, Kim or Kourtney, Disick’s estranged girlfriend — and not some hanger-on like Disick.
Of course, time will tell if this White House visit actually took place. Smartphones and compact phones are allowed on tours, so maybe we can expect Disick family selfies some time soon.
