If you watched the Season 2 premiere of Riverdale on Wednesday, Oct. 11, you were most likely disturbed AF when the show’s controversial character Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel) was unexpectedly and violently murdered minutes before the episode wrapped up.
Last season, we saw Miss Grundy engaging in a predatory relationship with high school student Archie (KJ Apa), but their romance fizzled out after Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) dug up some dirt on the music teacher. But, last night, fans learned that Miss Grundy was back to her old tricks as she passionately — and inappropriately — made out with a young student at her home.
After she dismissed the young man, Miss Grundy’s life was cut short when a mysterious killer (presumably, the same guy who murdered Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews) lifted her up by the neck with a sharp object before mercilessly slicing her throat. Needless to say, viewers were not ready for that twist — and took to Twitter to share their utter shock over Miss Grundy’s death.
“WAIT. WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED??!!” one fan asked, while another wrote, “OK that was sick. Did NOT expect that but can’t say she didn’t deserve it. #ByeFelicia.” Added another, “I’m honestly breathless and shook to the core over Ms. Grundy’s death. Like WTF.” And one fan just wanted to know who the hell was behind the crime: “Who TF did that tho? #Riverdale”

Given Ms. Grundy’s pedophiliac tendencies, many fans had mixed feelings over her gruesome send-off. However, hunky KJ, 20, who played her underage lover, recently admitted to E! News that he was a little bummed about her murder. “I’ve noticed that a lot of the fans aren’t too keen on Miss Grundy and a lot of the fans really don’t like the storyline between her and Archie, but I really did enjoy that storyline. I thought it was great,” he explained. “So I was excited to have her back! I was really psyched, and then obviously with what happened…yeah.”
KJ added, “I think Archie, he loved Miss Grundy — or he thought he loved Miss Grundy — so with her being murdered, again, it kind of makes his quest to find revenge for his dad that much more intense.”
Riverdale airs on The CW Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST.
